How to sanitize your equipment
specially your cameras and lenses ?

I have been asked this question many times in this difficult time.

why couldn’t I answer this question earlier because I am at home and I did not have any camera or Lens to try by myself.

But yesterday I got one camera and I found the answers. My friend who gave me his camera had sanitized his camera with some sanitiser spray at home before giving it to me.

But using the sanitizer on his camera made the camera dead. The chemical, shot the electric PCB inside the camera.

So what to do and what not to:-

1. Before sanitizing the camera, take out the battery and memory card from the camera.

2.  Remove the lens from the body and put body cap on the camera.

3. Also cover lens with front and rear/mount cap.

4. You can use Colin to clean the exterior body.

5. You need to spray some on a tissue paper then clean the exterior body with that tissue paper.

6. Do not direct spray any chemical on camera.

7. To clean mirror and viewfinder your can also use Colin(a single drop on cotton swab).

8. Or you can use SPECS cleaning chemical to do so, SUCH AS RENU or any other chemical available. But still do not direct spray on mirror and on viewfinder or on external body.

9. Hand sanitizer has different type of IP, which can cause serious damages on mirror surface and also on exterior body of camera and lens.

10. Or if you can arrange clear ISOPROPYL CHEMICAL(for cleaning purpose only not for medicinal purpose) that can also do. But always keep in mind that use small amount of chemical to clean.

11. And always keep your equipment in mild sunlight for five to ten minutes after sanitizing them.

12. To sanitize your tripod you can use the same process.

13. To sanitize the flash or studio light or any light source you can use the same process but always sanitize them when they are  not in use for at-least 1hour. They usually have high voltage inside while using so when you don’t use them then most of flashes or studio lights or other light sources get auto discharged. So just take out the batteries from them or disconnect from the power and let them cool for minimum 1-2 hour. After that you can sanitise them.

14. But still don’t try to touch tube or bulb/model lamp with chemical.

15. Always use dry cloth to dry off your equipment after sanitizing them.

16. To clean lenses you can use this same process but you need to use microfibre cloth and moisture free tissue paper to clean glass or element.

17. Always wear gloves and mask while doing so.

I hope these tips help you guys.
Take care and stay safe and try to stay at home. Crucial time demands tough measures to follow.
