Canon 50mm f/1.8 STM

Canon 50mm f/1.8, STM. Came for autofocus problem. Drop damaged case, AF barrel was stuck, so at first I thought some bush or something else got stuck inside which was not a big issue. But when I opened it I found that one DOUBLE SIDE GEAR WITH ITS SUPPORTING SHAFT was broken. I tried to search for the gear but couldn’t found it. It’s a tiny plastic gear. The mechanism is based upon Stepper motor which is very precise one and you don’t have many space to do any JUGAAD. And I still remember that day when I was in Tamron and I have discussed this kind of mechanism in lenses to have fast and precise focus with my product manager. He listened me very carefully and as he was Japanese there was another lady who translated my thoughts to him. And yet here I have challenge to make this defected AF unit to make it work again.
So I have decided to make gear by my own with JUGAAD.
I took two different gears cut them in exact size as I need and put one metal shaft inside both to align them in centre and to work it as pully I need. Made the holes in gear chamber and placed the gear inside it. And when I test it manually, it was working so I put the gear chamber in lens and tried it with camera body. Lens started working but there was some more fine alteration needs to be done. So I opened again and made the alterations and “VOILA” it started working as I need as per my customers satisfaction or I would say as per my OWN satisfaction.
After sometime I did something which made myself fresh and new again.
